AMS Educational Consultation Services (AMSECS) is a registered Maryland-based company, which specializes in three primary areas:
(I) Special Education Advocacy services for children and youth with exceptional needs throughout the Metropolitan Washington D.C. area;
(II) Facilitates Teacher Training in all areas of special education pedagogy and instruction [e.g., instructional planning, classroom organization, behavior management, diagnostic testing and evaluation, writing effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and Metacognitive Problem-Solving Instruction (MIPS)]. Training is provided through short-term seminars and/or long-term school-based training courses. Instructional sessions are also available to preservice and inservice teachers, in preparation for the state certification examination in Special Education (PRAXIS II).
(III) Technical Educational Support Services are provided to public, private, and charter schools, to assist in the planning, development, and evaluation of school-based programs, yearly school improvement plans, and conflict resolution.
AMSECS is a highly professional organization that firmly believes in the highest quality of service delivery to its clients. It represents and defends the rights of its clients, to ensure that diverse populations of children and youth with exceptionalities are provided a quality education, that addresses and responds to their uniquely individual needs.
Further, AMSECS strives to improve the quality of teaching and instruction, through comprehensive preservice and inservice teacher training. Training is provided across program classifications, academic content, and grade levels, to better equip all teachers with the professional competencies and skills needed to guide and facilitate learning experiences for diverse populations of children and youth, including those with exceptionalities.
AMSECS supports the IDEA, ADA, and FERPA in practice and in truth. It supports the rights of all families of children and youth with exceptional disabilities, to receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE)in the least restrictive environment(LRE), with the appropriate and necessary support services that includes essential accommodations.
AMSECS advises and guides parents and legal guardians through every phase of the special education process on behalf of their child. This includes: (a) advising parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of children and youth with disabilities of their legal rights under local, state, and federal laws;(b)reviewing past and current social, academic, behavioral, and medical histories of the child; (c) enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the IEP process; (d) providing representation at school ARD, IEP, and CMDT meetings; and (e) participating in due process hearings.
AMSECS is here to protect and safeguard the civil and educational rights of all children and youth with disabilities. Its also here to encourage and actively participate in advancing the art of teaching, so that the highest standards of professional practices in teaching become clearly evidenced as the universal rule across the nation.
